rec•tyty

Indigenous Arts Festival

rec•tyty was an online indigenous arts festival held from April 17 to May 30, 2021 that set out to touch viewers’ hearts with an exhibition and activations by different indigenous artists from across the country.

Rec stands for recording, documenting. In Guarani language, tyty is the pulsing of the heart and the emotions that resonate within us whenever we hold someone, look at a painting, or listen to a song that moves us. Per Guarani wisdom, this pulsing of affection and the heart is what records and activates memories in our brain.

Curated by Ailton Krenak, Cristine Takuá, Carlos Papá, Naine Terena, and Sandra Benites, the rec•tyty Festival was a collective celebration designed to lift the skies, to unite in resistance and pulsation, to express our yearning to live together.

The pulsing of these wonders was prompted by the works of nearly forty indigenous artists who straddle the lines between the fine arts, photography, audiovisual work, music and dancing, conversation and workshops.

The festival was held by Instituto Maracá, with funding from PROAC Expresso Lei Aldir Blanc – the Cultural Action Program of the São Paulo State Government’s Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy.
