NHE'ẼRY

Nhe'ery is what the Guarani call the "Atlantic Forest" and means "place where the spirits bathe". The city of São Paulo was once the Atlantic Forest and the indigenous peoples who lived here bequeathed us names that describe territories that are now emptied of their original meanings.

The Nhe'ery project aims to research and build a map of the city of São Paulo with the meaning of indigenous names. More than a translation, with the aim of bringing the meaning of the Guarani word into Portuguese, the "Nhe'ery" project is about learning a philosophy of life. Assigning meaning to the names of neighborhoods, streets, rivers, parks, valleys, etc. is an important key to raising awareness of our origins.

The Nhe'ery project is one of the flights of the Selvagem spacecraft, in partnership with Instituto Maracá and coordinated by Carlos Papá.
