MEETING ON MEMORY AND HISTORY AT GUARANI DO RIO SILVEIRA VILLAGE
In 2019, Instituto Maracá partnered up with the Arandu Porã Culture Spot and the anthropologist and Centro de Trabalho Indigenista (CTI) founder Maria Inês Ladeira for an activity focusing on the memory and history of Rio Silveira Village.
Joined by the leaders of the 5 clusters and by students from the school, Inês looked back on Rio Silveira Village history highlights, especially relating to the indigenous land demarcation struggle. There was a screening of the 1988 film “Karai – O Dono das Chamas,” which addresses the issue, and pivotal events were discussed that culminated in the 2008 expansion of indigenous land.
Leaders who experienced those events mentioned the importance of memory to the community and the need for comprehensive discussion in devising future projects. They also said young people must be aware of the indigenous land boundaries declared in 2008 so they can care for their territory.
