CONTEMPORARY RESISTANCE CYCLE:
Encounters of indigenous peoples with
Álvaro Tukano and Aílton Krenak and meeting of indigenous leaders in São Paulo
ABSTRACT: Instituto Maracá organized the coming of a group of young Guarani students from the Rio Silveira village to the Contemporary Resistance Cycle, a parallel program to the exhibition “Adornos do Brasil Indígena: Resistências Contemporâneas”, shown at Sesc Pinheiros. Young people had the opportunity to get to know the exhibition and hear the speech of older leaders, such as Ailton Krenak. After visiting the exhibition, Instituto Maracá promoted a meeting between leaders and young people, configured as a grand ceremony, with songs and dances from different ethnic groups, in addition to conversation circles, maracás and the exchange of traditional knowledge among those present. .
In 2016, Instituto Maracá organized the arrival of a group of young Guarani students from the Rio Silveira village to the "Ciclo Resistências Contemporâneas", a parallel program to the exhibition "Adornos do Brasil Indígena: Resistências Contemporâneas", shown at the Sesc Pinheiros unit, the result of a partnership between Sesc and the USP Museum of Archeology and Ethnology.
The panel presented the theme “Indians on the Move is the Current Indigenous Movement”, through the speech of two important names in the history of struggle of the Brazilian indigenous movement, leaders Aílton Krenak and Álvaro Tukano. In addition to this meeting, several other activities open to the public were carried out in parallel programming to the exhibition, including an indigenous rap show of the MC Brô group, made up of Guarani from the state of São Paulo.
After the visit to the exhibition, Instituto Maracá promoted a meeting between leaders and young people, which took the form of a large ceremony, with songs and dances from different ethnic groups, in addition to conversation circles, maracás and the exchange of traditional knowledge between the gifts.
